The litter tray

Poorly kitten hand hold

So my extremely affectionate beautiful girl was neutered last week.
2 nights ago we took her to emergency vet as she had a large bulge appear on her tummy. The did surgery yesterday to repair a partial hernia.
Today I am working from home, she is not right in herself. I have just found another lump like the first in her groin!
Waiting to see the vet at 2. Hoping it is just swelling from all the surgery but very worried about her.
She is only 4 months and to go through all of this in a short space of time is very stressful for her
Here is a pic for the cute factor!

What a cute kitten, I love the little blob in her nose. It does sound as if the vet has made a bit of a mess of this as a spay us normally fairly straight forward. Is she being particularly active and bursting her stitches? Maybe try confining her to one room while she heals? How did the next vet visit go? I'm surprised nobody else has answered as there are far more knowledge people than me on here!

she has now been diagnosed with a seroma and i have been putting on cold compresses etc.

i was told to keep her in her travel box for 24 hours and just bring her out to toilet and feed. she is so unhappy.
Have been out and bought a small dog crate so i can fit a litter tray in and she can move about a little.
Vet is saying she may need 2 weeks in a cage!!! sounds too much for my little girl.

her brother is meowing the house down as she is in another room and he wants to be with her but if i let him near her she gets so stressed trying to get to him.

trying to keep her very still x

Did the vet suggest draining the seroma? And did they explain why it had manifested in her groin - not at the operation site?

My dearly departed little girl cat had an umbilical hernia, so when they did her spay, instead of going through the side, the vet went in through the tummy, and stitched the muscles causing the hernia bulge together at the same time.

Poor kitten. She's lovely.

her initial spay scar was reopened and extended when they went in to fix hernia, but they said it was not a full hernia and had traveled between the muscles into her groin and they had done internal stitching down to where the seroma is.

they drained it yesterday and he said he could feel the internal stitches but it had refilled by the time i went to bed last night

Poor girl, you never expect routine surgery to go wrong.

the saga continues,. they have decided it is still a seroma but haven't ruled out a hernia!
She is going in for investigative surgery on Wednesday when they intent to insert a drain fix her hernia?

she is so bored and wants to come out to play but is not allowed. however we are having lots of cuddles, this all started on 2nd November....feel like I am letting her down by not having her better yet. fingers crossed!

Is it still the same size? Poor lass.

Report
Soon2bC · 14/11/2016 18:56

Still the same. Has got bigger a couple of times but gets smaller after a visit to the litter tray. Not sure if it's because it's being pushed forward by waste in the bowels or because it's hernia of part of her bowel

The vet wouldn't advance her corrective treatment any?

Sorry, in what way? (Confused)

Sorry. Didn't mean to confuse you.

It's just that Wednesday seems quite a long way off.

Oops I read you wrong! (The meowing is sending me nutty!)
They are full tomorrow and couldn't do it today as she had been eating
They say as she is eating, drinking and using toilet and has no infection and apparently no pain they can wait but That if I get concerned I can take her to emergency vet.
After surgery I am looking at another 2-3 weeks in a cage.
I have a small dog cage but also have a big one for German shepherds which I will move her too after her healing has set in. Biggest problem has been her brother trying to pounce on her when she gets away from me.
However last night they lay side by side against the bars having a sleep.
Didn't get that in photos but he is sitting with her a lot

update - several hundreds of pounds later, xrays, ultrasounds and too many drugs and she still has lump but it is confirmed as a seroma.

she is on cage rest for another week full time and then cage when we are not there to supervise for another 10 days, after that we should be able to let her run riot just in time to kill the christmas tree

So they're to let it reduce on its own rather than intervening?

Report
Soon2bC · 22/11/2016 12:52

it has been left to reduce on its own and is actually getting smaller hooray!

she has moved into a large dog cage now and has her bed/scratch post in there so is much happier. her brother is jealous and keeps trying to get in.

going to let her out to play on friday night (supervised) but another visit to the vet and have been told she can leave her cage for good after this week!!

Now to start the insurance claim Confused

So relieved and would go through all the hours of worry, vets and work again just to get her well if I have to.

She is a tornado once again and her brother struggles to keep up.

They are both proper snuggle kittens though
