The litter tray

New kitten hiding, how do I get her out?

Just brought our gorgeous rescue kitten (5 months) home. She immediately disappeared behind the fireplace and is covered in cobwebs and refusing to come out. I'm worried that she doesn't know where the litter tray is and if she has an accident I'll never be able to reach it to clean it!

We've tried to coax her out (food, toys, calling her) but she won't come out. What do I do?

Leave her, she'll come out in her own time for a little explore.

Just leave her, go about your normal business. She'll come out when she's ready.

Maybe leave the litter tray fairly close nearby to her and make sure the room is quite quiet so she isn't too scared. It's completely normal for them to hide away when they're settling in. You could also get something to block up the gap when she finally comes out so she can't get back there again.

Just leave her, she will soon settle and come out for a nosey in a few hours

Chicken Grin

Mine was the same, left her in the quiet spot she chose, made sure I was close to her so she got used to me being around/sound of my voice. I had a chicken sandwich and she appeared within about two seconds. Went back to her spot after a nibble of chicken so then I just started playing with random cat toys, she soon took interest and was fine within a few hours

Done the same with all of mine and it's worked every time.

Congrats on your new addition

My adult ferals vanished for 3 straight days when I brought them home.

Food would vanish overnight, the litter tray would be used, but never if anyone was about. They now try to get into anything & everything, Girlcat especially. Give the kitten time, natural curiosity will soon bring it out Smile

Congrats on your new kitten! All the advice has been said, but don't worry. I brought my nine week old home a few weeks ago and he was just the same. Now he's a right monkey, who loves his cuddles ❤

She's out (tried salmon and she appeared within seconds!). Currently purring on my knee.

Thanks everyone xx

I'm curious as to what would need to be deleted on a thread about a kitten? Grin

She has been deleted from a number of different threads.
