The litter tray

Moved house Wednesday and cat has got out

Hi my sil moved house Wednesday and her cat has got out through an open window tonight (Saturday) He's been desperate to get out as he's an outdoor cat My sil has sprinkled his used litter around the garden and has left the window open and some food and cat milk out for him. What else can she do? Will he find his way back? I'm not a cat person, more a dog person so I don't know what suggest to her.

Leaving food out is the most important thing. I would suggest giving him 24 hours and then putting notes round the neighbours and posters up.

Is he chipped and neutered? She will probably get him back, but it is certainly a risk that he has got out this early.

People never think cats can get out of windows and they generally can and do.

He's back!!! He sauntered in this morning. Thanks for your advice

I'm amazed at how cats just know where they live after just 4 days!
They moved 25 miles away from their previous home.
He's been lying in the garden today sunning and preening himself

MCat got out the 2nd night we moved here. I thought I'd left the window on the bit where you can lock it, but still leave about 1cm open. I hadn't pulled the latch down far enough to lock it, and he must have muscled his way through in the night.

Luckily, as soon as I called him, he came scrambling over the wall.

Go out when it's dark and shine a torch under cars/bushes/on top of walls, which will pick up the reflection in his eyes. Does he respond to food bowl tapping/shaking of treats packets? And call to him.

When he returns, FlatCats are a good investment. You can leave your windows open without worry.

Like Pink says, if SIL hasn't moved not too far away from her previous home, it will be worth asking around the area if they've seen him.

Like TCN says, flyers, laminated A4 posters on lamp posts etc. Call local vets too.
