New friend for ginger tom

Hello all,

One of our beloved ginger toms was run over a killed a few weeks ago. We are still devastated but are thinking about getting a little friend for the remaining 1 year old tom (the original two were half brothers) as we're not around in the day and it would be good for him to have someone to play with.

Originally we were going to get another ginger as we'd been told they have lovely temperaments but we're wondering if this will be like trying to replace our original boy. Also one of the ladies at the cattery we use has a small black tom kitten we could look at adopting (we're also registered with cat protection league in local area for suitable young cats).

These guys were our first kittens so we're not hugely experienced so any advice gratefully received. Wwyd? Stick with gingers or are we being crazy?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your cat, very sad

I've had two gingers and I have found them to have rather extreme characters! Lovely cats but no social boundaries and less cautious than the other cats I've had. I have found them fun but a bit nerve wracking

If it helps, cat rescues will often struggle to rehome black and black and whites. I don't think the colour makes any difference. I've nearly always had blacks just because all mine are rescue cats but I did foster a black and white girl who had four tabby kittens. They were beautiful little cats and went quickly.

I've just received a message from my local Blue Cross stating they have had lots of kittens taken to them. Whenever, I have decided to get a kitten I have always gone to a rescue, you will find a kitten that will pick you as much as you pick them. I have black cats as no one seems to want to adopt this colour kitten and they are my funniest most loving cats.

I truly believe colour doesn't matter, you will find one another
