The litter tray

I've fallen in love.

Went to the rescue centre today thinking we could fill in the paperwork and have the home visit ready to get a cat when we're back from holiday.
We fell in love with a beautiful boy but they can't reserve him for us ???? We're back off holiday in a fortnight and we just have to hope he's still there when we get back.

He was the only one who came up to us, he fussed and played and let us hold him and purred, he's so lovely. I actually cried when we left him.

He's 16 weeks old and black and white, they said everyone just walks past him as they want coloured cats or tiny kittens. He also has the same name as our old rescue cat had when he was in the kennels! I'm hoping it's a sign!

So need vibes and everyone's fingers crossed that he's still there in 2 weeks. I'll be driving straight there from holiday and waiting on the doorstep!

Just before you head off, I'd drop a modest box of chocolates/biscuits in to the rescue with a card addressed 'To [beautiful boy] and his rescuers' - I doubt he'll eat many of them Wink but it will keep your interest in him known. And do they have your email so that they can 'tell you if he's not OK' when you're away? I should imagine that they have a good number of people who express an initial interest and don't follow through - and you haven't even passed their home check yet after all.

Best of luck. Smile

Could you have the HV before your holiday?

Report
cozietoesie · 25/07/2015 14:27

That would be ideal - but I guess those are done by volunteers so maybe they can't rustle one up quickly?

Yes, it all depends. At ours speed is of the essence if it means rehoming quickly but with it being holiday time etc, less chance of that.

Weve, this is happening to us!
We saw a beautiful 4 yr old girl last Saturday at RSPCA centre & she chose us, but we can't reserve either. We go away a week on Wed for a week. I will call the centre just before we go to see if she is still there & if we can reserve her.

Sending good vibes to you!

Best of luck to you as well, again, Northumberlandlass. Remind me - do you need a home visit also?

I asked if they could do the home visit before we go but they can only do it when we reserve him.
I understand why they can't, they need the room so have to let him go if someone shows an interest before we get back but aaargh!

I'm going to email and ring every few days to keep us fresh in their minds!

Thanks Weve! I loved being chosen. I keep checking the website to see if she is still there.
Yes Cozie, we need a HV too.

All the best to both of you. (I suspect that on holiday you're going to be just a tad more 'distracted' than you would normally be?) Remember to call the centre, Northumberland. Smile

Totally distracted cozie

I know if he's gone that's lovely for him but selfishly I want him to still be there!

To those that work in rescues, do you think if we offered to pay for his upkeep for the time we're on holiday it would help them "bend the rules" and let us reserve him? Or is that totally inappropriate?

Can you tell he's stolen my heart?!

Could you get a friend to "reserve" him?

Awwww. Just try to keep thinking of the loving home he'll have gone to. Difficult, I know - but try.

Go on your hols, get back, have the HV - and then visit the centre again with everything set up this time.

Best of luck for that.

Oh no, I am really sorry to hear that. Poor you.

I'm sure the other people will spoil him rotten too though.

I know, I'm glad he's got a home but so sad. The kids are gutted too.

We'll go back when we get back from holiday and hope some other little blighter jumps out at us.

Sad for you. YY to get the HV done before choosing a cat and then you are free to browse knowing you are ready to go straight away IYKWIM.

Problem is they won't do the home visit until you see a cat you want.

OMG! Went back to the centre straight from holiday this morning and he was still there! I looked at his cage and it said "reserved" on it.
I was fuming as they wouldn't let us reserve him for 2 weeks but had let someone else.
I went to the office to ask them about it and she said the reservation had fallen through last night!

So, on condition of passing the home check, he's ours Grin

Someone really wanted us to have him, too many coincidence.

I'm so, so happy!
