The litter tray

My little cat

My much loved little cat was PTS yesterday. It all happened so quickly. She had just been diagnosed with renal failure but the vet was optimistic it could be managed with diet and medication. She then went downhill and was very ill by Saturday. My DH took her to the vet and then called me to tell me the vet felt she should be PTS. I feel utterly heartbroken. I miss her so much it physically hurts. Nobody I can really talk to. I guess for some they just wouldn't really get it.

I'm so sorry :( That must have been an awful shock. Don't worry about people who don't understand, you've lost a friend and you're allowed to grieve for her. Be kind to yourself Flowers

Thank you for your kind replies. House feels wrong without her. I know in time it will get better. Her hair is still all over the bit of the sofa she used to sleep on her. I always used to touch her head when I walked past her. I cuddled her for a long time on Friday night. She was so thin and obviously suffering. I just can't believe she is gone and I will never see or stroke her again. I'm sorry.... I don't mean to sound so self indulgent.

The most awful thing is nothing really helps. I allowed myself lots of crying ( on my own, so the rest of the family didn't see). After a while it helped a little to put together some nice photos.
And then, after about six months, two little rescue kittens...

I have tidied her grave up and planted some flowers on it this evening. My DH has been so wonderful. He dug her grave and placed her in there while I watched from the back door. He was so gentle with her. He really isn't a cat person but really stepped up when I took the cowards way out and couldn't face taking her to the vet. I guess I knew deep down it would be bad news.

I am not sure I can face getting anymore animals.

Oh, OP, I am sorry. You did the right thing though, at least she isn't suffering anymore.

Don't think about future animals now, but instead allow yourself time to grieve. Eventually you might find yourself wanting another cat, but all in good time. And if you do, another cat will never be a replacement for your little cat, but just another cat in need of a loving home.

So sorry, OP. So hard on the heart to lose a beloved pet. She sounds like a very loved girl. Miss60 and her felines are sending hugs to you. X

So sorry for your loss missing, I was in your situation at the start of the year when our young and happy mog and to be PTS due to untreatable cancer, it was devastating.
Like others have said, give yourself lots of time and space to grieve. We collected up all the pics we could find of her and have a nice one printed in a frame on the bookshelf, so she's always there - maybe something similar might help.

So sorry to hear this. I'm going through something similar myself. It hurts. Grief for our fur babies is very, very real. I'm like a rollercoaster so expect that over the coming days/weeks.

It really does break your heart. I'm sure some people do think it silly to feel so upset about a pet but they're not just pets are they, they're members of the family. So innocent and lovely, it's no wonder we hurt so much when they leave us.
