The litter tray

My cat's nose!

Sorry if this topic has come up before; this is my first visit to The Litter Tray.

My 8 year old neutered male cat's nose has suddenly gone very pale. Was previously a nice deep pink. He is otherwise well, eating and acting normally.

Is this anaemia? Or could he just be cold (heating not working at moment and house pretty freezing)? Something else?

Thanks!

Could be nothing but have a look at his gums - lift up his top 'lip' at the side. They should be pink. If they're very pale or white then that's a sign of anaemia.

Thanks, Shaska, I'll have a look.

Hopefully it's just a chilly nose! If his gums are pale and he's otherwise fine then it's unlikely to be anything urgently terrible, but might be worth getting the vet to check him out. As far as I know there are a bunch of possible causes of anaemia - everything from fleas to injury to blood parasites, and I think even ingestion of garlic/onions can do it.
