Why do cats follow me?!

This is a very stupid question Grin
"Feral" cat at the stables, hasn't let anyone touch it ever. Wandered over, plonked itself purring on my lap and let me flea treat it. Cats owner still can't touch it
Neighbours birman yells for me all day and throws itself at me when I appear
New stable cat thinks I am it's personal chauffeur and follows me crying until she can sit on my shoulders
Other neighbours cat has now taken to sitting outside my window, and launching itself in purring when it's open
I don't smell of dreamies, I haven't rolled in catnip and I'm not particularly a cat person (honestly!)
Oh and cats that live feral at work will happily sit in my lap Confused

Do you totally ignore them? That'll usually do it.

Hmmm. The feral one I ignored, was just sat on the wall when it wandered over
Birman and yard cat impossible to ignore due to volume level Hmm

You are the chosen one. Somewheres there's a golden statue of you they leave offerings to.

It's ridiculous Confused
This black cat has never jumped in the window before, it's come in via the bedroom window while I'm reading a book. Now fast asleep on my leg and I'm too soft to move it

This happens to my Mum much to her horror as she's scared to death of cats.

So is it really ignoring them that does it?

A fellow cat whisperer! :o DD2 can't understand how her cat will happily jump on my lap and sleep yet will only go to her under sufferance.

My brother in law is like this. We call him daddy catnip.

I believe cats know who isnt bothered about them and target these people out of sheer bloody mindedness.
