Limping cat...

My cat has a sore front paw, has had for a few days now. Have had a feel of it and it is tender around one or two of the claws but not terribly so, and all claws are there and retract fine. There does not appear to be a puncture wound and it is warm but not much more than the other.

She has caught, killed and disembowelled a mouse with this sore foot, washes her face with it and is able to leap onto the welsh dresser to eat her dinner. However, it does not appear to be getting better, in fact it is possibly worse - she is not weight bearing on it as she did when it first happened. Could it be broken?

Any ideas what it could be? I have a feeling an expensive visit to the vet is on the cards, along with £350 worth of x rays etc....

It might be a break but I would have thought it could also be a nailbed disorder. I'd have her up to the vet, I'm afraid. Not weight bearing after a few days (when she was wight bearing to start off with) is quite serious.

Hope she recovers.

By the way - cats' every instinct is to power on through a discomfort/pain as they would have to in the wild. Killing and jumping will go on as long as the cat finds it possible.

She has a sprained toe.... But good to know it's not anything more serious

Well that's excellent news. Always best to check, though, when something seems to be getting worse rather than better.

i had almost the same with my cat. took him to vets they did xray, he came out not limping at all! little git!

Seriously, they often sort of pull themselves together at the vets because it's threatening territory. (Sorry to any vets reading.) Soon as you get them home, they relax again.

Having said which, he could have been playing you like an old Strad.
