new cat around 7mo?

hi, i'd like some advice please. I've just got a 2 year old cat. he's currently using a litter tray, which won't be for long. I'm just worrying a bit about my 7mo ds. I know you're not meant to go near a litter tray when pg, can anything be passed onto my ds? Also, is there any other possible health risks I need to worry about?
I've got an ultra clean/sensitive family. So when they flame me for getting a cat, I can put them right.
