We brought 8-week old dpup home at the weekend. He’s totally adorable and so far been really easy - I’ve heard horror stories about destruction and crying, but no problems so far
He’s going to his crate at 9.30/10ish and doesn’t make a peep all night. I’ve been coming down early before 6 and he’s awake but happy. Do you think I can try a bit later? Or is that just pushing my luck?
That's a long time for a tiny puppy to hold their pee and poo so pushing it longer right now might just mean he toilets in his crate which I would be trying to avoid.
Thanks. I know you are right really which is why I’ve been settting my alarm. When everyone is back at school / work we’re always up this early but because of lockdown it’s been a long time so tougher than I expected!
Can you try and keep him up a bit later? If he doesn't go in until 10.30/11 he might wake up later? From our experience, you are very lucky with 6am! Our black Lab is now 20 weeks. However, only in the last week has he not been consistently waking up at 5-6am.
I wish mine slept until 6am... she is usually fidgeting from 4:30/5am! She is pretty good in that she will ask to be let out for the toilet, and will then settle back in her crate (not for very long, mind you!), but it is very rare that she will actually go back to sleep; you can hear her playing with her toys or having a scratch! Like LBee, mine is 20 weeks.
My feeling is that only you know your puppy. If you think you could try it a little bit later, then do. You will immediately know whether it is possible or not. But I do doubt your dpup will manage to cross his little legs for much longer!
Thank you. Yes I know I’m lucky. He’s not waking us at 6. In fact he might still be asleep until he hears us moving in the room above him. I might try 5 mins later and see how we go from there
