Any experience with KC insurance?

Puppy comes to us in August and breeder has recommended Kennel Club insurance. This is new to us so I’m wondering if anyone has any experience? I’ve also heard petplan and John Lewis are good but only anecdotal.

I’ve got Kennel club insurance. They offer lifetime cover and in my opinion are similar to Petplan. Like all lifetime covers they won’t be the cheapest . It depends if you want the assurance that you continue to be insured if your dog ends up with a long term condition . I’ve been with them for 11 years and have found they were easy to deal with and didn’t quibble any claims . It will be worth validating the free month insurance you get from the breeder anyway as you don’t have to stick with them .

They have a good reputation for paying out and the policy itself is good however all of the people I know who insure with them have said the policy has dramatically increased into the second year of the lifetime policy, even without a claim.

One friend said if doubled per month in a 1 year old dog but because she had claimed for an elbow injury she was stuck with them.

This put me off so I didn’t use them in the end!

For comparison I’m with Petplan and I’ve claimed £100-£300 every month I’ve owned my rescue dog and my premium has gone up from £19 to £29 over the course of 10 years!

I've got lifetime cover with Legal & General, the comparable policy with KC was almost double per month Confused

I've had to claim twice and I can't fault them.

I've just been doing research myself as we also have a puppy coming soon. Which have some good info if you sign up for a free trial. KC weren't included in the reviews. The price was one of the highest but so was the cover. The excess was 95 plus 10% of the claim so could be expensive.

I found PetPlan expensive and their age limit is 8 or 9.

We're with MoreThan for other pets and have been happy with their claims but their prices went up and up and the excess has got ridiculous over 9. Now it's 100 plus 25% of any claim.

I think we're going to go for John Lewis. Good level of cover, no upper age limit and pretty good scores.

I researched a lot into pet insurance before I got my frenchie and I decided to get a lifetime policy for 7k a year through bought by many. It's not cheap (mainly because of the breed) but it was the most highly recommended company that I came across in the frenchie community. I've not had to claim yet as he's only 11 weeks old but people who have have had only good things to say.

One thing I want to point out - whoever you decide to go with - is most (if not all) don't cover for the first 14 days of the policy so if possible don't go to your vets in those 14 days or anything they find, even if minor, will be classed as pre-existing and you won't be covered for them unless you declare them on a policy that covers pre-existing illnesses.
