She's just turned one, and since she was about 4 months old she hasn't ever peed (or pooed) in the garden...holds it til we are on a walk. Which is nice on some ways but means we are tied to a late night wee walk (which she hates) and hurrying out in the morning.
We used to have artificial grass (predated the dog) and this weekend have put down real turf... but I need to get her to realise she CAN pee on it (I think she thought the artificial stuff was carpet or something so wouldn't go on it)
How do I get her to pee there? She has a bladder of steel (her record is 19 hours...)

Do you have a command for when she pees? If not you could try and introduce one and then say it when in the garden to tell her to pee.

Could you not go out for a walk for a couple of days. Do exercise in the garden. Get lots of training treats and reward when your dog finally does a wee in the garden. It probably isn’t too late to get a command either, we use ‘be quick’, which can also use when you are out walking.

I couldn't not walk her for a few days.. we'd both go up the wall! I do always say 'go wee' when she looks like she needs to go so will try and reinforce that will hallelujahs and treats and see if she connects it.

I just want her to do that last wee!!!!

Perhaps a bit of a weirdo suggestion, but maybe try collecting some of her urine, as you would if you needed to get a sample for the vet, then chuck it in your garden. Maybe if it smelt of her it would encourage her to go?! Maybe also stick one of those pee posts In your grass? Having a command she associates with toileting will definitely help. Our dog always gets a couple of bedtime biscuits after his last wee at night. It encourages him to hurry up and also stops him from being a bit sick in the night.

Basically go out when she you think she needs a wee and stand/sit there until she does.

Big fuss when she does

If she moves to go indoors, go with her in, and then walk her straight back out.

It will take a while if she’s that stubborn but eventually she will do it.

Start it in the morning and only do the late night peeing when she’s confident about doing it in the garden
