Help daycare and liability insurance

Looking for the hive mind of Mumsnet. We have found an amazing daycare person for our 7 month old puppy. Her terms and conditions though say we are liable for anything that happens to her, employees or her house. Problem is that as soon as you pay someone to look after your dog, our liability insurance in pur pet insurance policy won't cover it and we can't find one that does. Are these terms normal and if so does anyone have insurance that covers this?

She needs a liability insurance herself, if she is running a business.

She should have her own insurance.

Is her daycare legal? If you're in England, she needs to be licensed by the council. If she's not licensed, she's not insured because what she's doing is illegal.

The laws regarding dog daycare changed in England a couple of years ago - if you run a daycare, you have to be licensed, even if the dog comes to your own home. The regulations are really strict (I looked into it but the costs were just not worth it for me - I can make more money doing walks and drop-ins).

You can check with the council to she if she's legitimate. She should have a council license number.

Thanks all. She does have insurance herself she just doesn't want to have to claim on it so essentially if anything happens we take full liability.

I would be incredibly wary of this, to be honest. It doesn't sound like the perfect daycare at all.

I'm a dog walker and I have full insurance - and I wouldn't hesitate to claim on it if something happened while a dog was in my care. I mean, that's what it's there for! Dogs aren't perfect and accidents will happen occasionally - that's just what happens, especially when you're looking after multiple dogs a day.

Is she legal and licensed by the council? If she's running a daycare and not fully licensed then her insurance will be invalid anyway.

And she is fully licenced and comes with recommendations. We just can't use her unless we can get insurance that covers this risk. At 7 months he is still a puppy and we can't guarantee his behaviour in a different place with different people.

Thanks all! She did say that this was standard t&cs but it doesn't make a difference to us unless we can get insured for this as it is not something we are prepared to agreed to.

I have seen pet care/walkers insurance where they do exclude damage to their house or her so I can see why that has been added to your T&Cs.

She has insurance but doesn’t want to claim?
Bit cheeky

How do her other customers manage? Can you then if you know them or ask her who they are insured by?
