So ddog is coming up a year old, we've had him since he was 10 weeks and he's our first dog.

In the last month he seems to have picked up ticks almost daily!! We walk him in a variety of different places but he seems to get them regardless of where we are.

I asked the vet for advice and he prescribed Bravecto spot on which I put on a couple of weeks ago, today I've pulled another 3 ticks off him 😩

I didn't really like putting chemicals on him anyway and it's not even worked.

What do other people use?

I use nexgard spectra but I think it's the same as bravecto. They have to bite the dog and then they typically die within 24-48 hours.

If I see any ticks I leave them until the next day and then they are dead and I can easily pull them out or they drop out because they are dead.

I did try the seresto collar but that didn't work for us but I know people who have had great success with it.

We use Advantix - it seems to be a preventative as she stopped getting any when we started it. Last year she got loads before we started using it. Important to get right down to the skin when applying it.

You can get spot ons, tablets or collars and that is it as far as I know but no medic so could be missing something.

I hate to use the tablets as there is such a knock on environmental issue (but that is just my view). I am not a great fan of chemical treatments unless essential. They also allow the ticks to attach and then drop off in a couple of days so there is also a chance of the dogs getting lyme disease anyway.

Spots on seem to work for some dogs but do get less effective over the period of time so you do need to remember to treat regularly

Seresto collar is the only tick treatment that also repels ticks and then if they do latch on will kill the ticks. It does take a couple of weeks for them to start working though in my experience.

There are herbal natural remedies that in my experience do not work at all but they may do for others.

What I have found the most useful is using a lint roller over the dogs after each walk but does take a degree of commitment.

Ticks nasty little buggers

They are gross, I found another tick on him this morning which was dead which at least reassured me the spot on stuff has worked!

I think I'll try the collar next time as would really like something that repels them as well as kills them 😬
