Black ‘Rash’ on puppy

I’ve got a 6 month old puppy who has developed some sort of ‘rash’ on his stomach. It’s like black spots, ‘dotty’ with some joined up to form bigger areas. It doesn’t seem to bothering him, not itching, no redness. Looking back at photos it wasn’t there at all in March but I can see it starting about a month ago and it’s now covering 2/3 of his stomach. I can’t seem to post a photo at the moment but will try later.

Any ideas what it could be. We have tried to make a vet appointment but they’ll only do a telephone appointment next week.

Can you post a pic?

Some dogs have black pigmentation in their skin which can look a bit weird. What breed?

It won’t let me post a photo at the moment. I’ve just made the account, maybe that’s why? Will keep trying.

He’s a mixed breed, ‘just’ a mongrel.... but beautiful. Smile

He definitely had a completely pink belly back in March.

Ddog gets blackheads on his belly in a little cluster. We bathe it with a warm flannel which seems to clear it up eventually

My jack russell had a pink belly as a pup. It gradually developed black spots as he got older. Wonder if its the same kinda thing?

Dogs get blackheads, called Comedones. They won't do any harm. Very common in schnauzers.

Possibly. It’s happened in the space of a month though, literally gone from pink to 2/3 black. Did it happen so quickly in your dog?

I don’t think it’s blackheads, the spots are flat, smooth....just black. 🤣 Sorry, it’s so frustrating not being able to just post a photo.

I’ve googled and got everything from it’s normal to some serious diseases, so not helpful at all. I can’t find a photo on google that looks the same. It’s so frustrating not being able to see a vet at the moment.

Does it look like this but more pronounced?

My beagle gets them every summer - we call them naughty spots! It's totally normal for his breed.

vanillandhoney

Your dog is beautiful and looks very comfortable there. 🤣

It looks similar sort of. But they are tiny dots that are joining up to make larger patches. It does look like something that is spreading and covers a much bigger area than on your dog. It’s so annoying that I can’t post a photo. Does anyone know if it’s because it’s a new account? And if so how long til I can post photos?

Thank you to everyone that has replied so far, I really appreciate you taking the time. Smile

The one time my (white) spaniel got this, it was just before we discovered she’d picked up fleas Envy.

It went when the fleas did, I just presumed it was connected in some way (maybe a deficiency of some kind?)

I hope it’s not fleas. 😩 He was due flea treatment a couple of weeks ago. We pay for a monthly plan with the vet which includes flea treatment but 2 phone calls later we’ve still not been able to pick it up. 🙄 Hopefully after the telephone consultation next week, we will be able to pick it up. I know vets, like everyone else, are trying to minimise contact but it’s really frustrating.

Naughty spots! 😂😂😂 That's exactly what my dog has.

If you're worried about fleas, look at the base of the tail for tiny black specks. If you drop them onto damp tissue and they turn red its flea muck.

If you have Facebook or the like upload a photo there and paste the url to the photo?

Or something like imgur?

I think my dog has developed black spots/patches on her belly. I thought it was from her regular sunbathing on her back! She is white with black patches anyway but I'm sure her belly used to be pinker.
