Kennel costs - refunded?

Would your kennels refund all/non/part of the funds paid for an upcoming stay booked but was then going to be cancelled?
Or would they be flexible and amend the dates for a fee?

Or none of the above?

What would yours do?

Be flexible. Move the dates but not refund

Tbh as a business I would not expect to be refunded, not covered under holiday insurance

I would expect them to rearrange the dates if possible but I wouldn't expect them to refund you necessarily.

The kennel I use charges a deposit, which I would expect to lose, but we pay after visit and I would not expect to pay that.

I would hope that they would let me rebook. But I have no clue when that’s going to happen.

I think it depends on the contract.

I would hope they would offer to rearrange but equally I wouldn't expect any deposit back and if the cancellation was very soon to the date then like anything else it would depend on whether they decide to wave the full fee due to the circumstances or not. If not then I would suck up any cost as one of those things.

However, I use a home hoarder which is a bit different in that I would offer to pay as it's more personal than kennels and I would want to use them again so wouldn't want to impact their finances.

I've just cancelled our cattery place.
No deposit paid. I asked about the cancellation policy, and would have paid- we were supposed to go at Easter, so its pretty short notice, and have just been told they hope to see us when we next go away.

I'm not expecting refunds from any of the small businesses - and if they offer to carry money over to when they reopen, I'm very pleased. Frankly, I'll be pleased if they can reopen again, and if keeping my money I'd already accounted for keeps them going through a period of zero income, fantastic. That includes my exercise class paid termly, instrument lessons for the kids, football and badminton clubs.

But, I write that from a position of me being a SAHM, so we have no childcare issues, and DH being able to WFH, as a civil servant. So we are not immediately concerned about job loss. I realise lots of families are not in that position.

Check your contract with them.
Then check your travel insurance - if you can, claim off that instead.

Businesses in the travel industry (and kennels are deeply connected to it) are being brought to their knees.

I had to cancel my dog's stay in kennels.

No deposit was taken but I offered to pay a cancellation fee, which they refused saying they weren't taking cancellation fees at this time.

I feel so sorry for them, I just hope they can survive this. So many businesses are not going to.
