10 weeks to get puppy

I think I've found a lovely breeder with a litter due late spring.
But I have a holiday booked and don't come back until the puppies would be about 10.5 - 11 weeks old. Is this too old? Would she let me take on then or do I have to get one at 8 week?
I have emailed to ask but not had any response.
It is a poodle btw....

We asked the breeder to hold our puppy until he was 10weeks and she was over the moon to keep him on for a bit longer.

He got more time socialising with their other dogs which we saw as a plus.

Our breeder held our until 10 weeks when I could take time off work. I had the same concerns as you but it worked really well for us. Pup was last in the litter to leave and the breeder had separated him from mum at night for the last 3 nights so by the time he came to us he was pretty independent and slept straight through with only 5 mins of crying. He was very confident and independent around the house too, not needing us to be in the room with him all the time. I don’t know if this was just his personality or wether the extra time with mum and being the only pup left had helped.

We didn't collect our first pup til 12 weeks: I asked the breeder to keep her until the school term started and I'd have a bit more time and the pup more space. She was very happy to do so.

A decent breeder will say yes. A puppy farmer will say no.

A decent breeder would be more than happy.

The oldervof my dogs came at 11 weeks. The breeder didnt let them go until 10 weeks anyway. My grandad passed away and we needed to travel for the funeral and so I called her and told her I didnt want to pick the puppy up and then have to leave her for a day with someone else in the first few days. My kids were also due to go away with their grandparents so it would give me a few days to settle to dog in. She was more than happy and actually quite delighted I told her. I think it confirmed, to her, that she had picked a good owner.

Its definitely not too late. It's a good game she is a superb dog.

My youngest (now 16 weeks) came to us as an emergency rescue at 6 weeks. The owner of the mother (dont want to call them a breeder) contacted the rescue and threatened to dump the last 3 if they didnt come pick them up. So did a 10 hour round trip for them. I kept them all for 3 weeks.

They needed a lot of time and attention. We (me, rescue and vet) suspected they were even 6 weeks. Some had been sold on their own before then. Broke my heart. But now the other 2 are rehomed and all doing well.

But it was hard work and if I was buying a puppy I would want a breeder who kept them until around 10 weeks.

My breeder kept dpup back for just over a week to make sure he came home with me at a time I could dedicate to him. She was more than happy to do so (and I think she secretly enjoyed the extra time with him).

We got our puppy at 12 weeks and he's been absolutely fine.

He was a dream to toilet train as the breeder had done most of the work, and we could take him on walks as soon as we got him as all has vaccinations had been done too

A decent breeder should be OK with this and should be able to give you a schedule of all the socializing they will do with the puppy until you collect it. They should also confirm that they can get the vaccinations done.

If that is not the case, if you get a puppy at 11 weeks with no vaccinations and which has not been socialized, you could have a problem on your hands as the socialization window closes at 14 weeks.

We got dpuppy at 14 weeks.
Had her 4 weeks. She has been great.
So far so good!
