Conjunctivitis

Has anyone's dog had conjunctivitis? My puppy has had it since Saturday and despite drops and now steroids it just isn't getting better. Any advice? Her third eyelid is up all the time and she can barely open her eyes. It's breaking my heart.

What breed is she?

I had a dog with repeated conjunctivitis and it was linked to a mouth problem. Once the mouth was cured, the conjunctivitis never came back.

But he was a looser skin gun breed so his mouth could harbour bacteria in the folds.

Interesting - she is a retriever

Vet here - if her third eyelid is up and she is holding her eye closed you should take her back to your vet tomorrow for a check- particularly to make sure an ulcer hasn't developed or that she doesn't have something stuck under her third eyelid. A simple conjunctivitis should respond fairly quickly to the medication, and shouldn't cause her to be overly painful. Good luck!

Thank you. She's going back tomorrow. Both eyes are exactly the same. It's so weird.

Id be concerned about ulcers too - or something like a grass seed stuck up the nose can cause eye symptoms too. Did they have a good look up her nose? Blocked tear ducts can also have an effect - so definitely another trip to vet required. Are you cleaning her eyes in between treatment? Use boiled water which has cooled right down, wipe away to outer eye and never use same pad twice or on both eyes.
