The doghouse

What could be wrong with my dog?

We have an appointment at at 3pm with the vet but in the meantime...

Eating fine, drinking fine, toileting fine. Managed to stand on hind legs for harness on and managed to lift his leg to pee.

But, took himself to his bed around 7 last night, just lying there looking very very sad. Doesn't want to come and play with his new Christmas toy. Bit both me and DP when we tried to stroke him (warning snap rather than a full on bite). The other dog accident ran into him and he screeched in pain. Seems to be leaning on things when standing but can seem to walk okay, generally just very listless. He also keeps trying to shake but can't seem to manage that either.

Any one have any idea what it might be? I don't think it's stomach related as he did let me give him a tummy rub for 10 seconds before he growled at me and when back to looking utterly depressed.

How old is he? He def sounds painful
Could be abdominal or musculoskeletal/spinal pain
Hope it’s nothing too serious

He's 9 now Sad I think we have ruled out his ears and he did have stomach issues previously that needed an emergency vet but he would screech if you even tried to touch his tummy whereas he seems okay to let you touch there but anywhere else and he seems really uncomfortable.

I hope it's not his spine Sad

Likely to be spinal. Is he a breed with a long back?

How did you get on at the vets?

My dogs physio/hydrotherapist has treated a few dogs that have had play related injuries. I actually thought maybe gut related when my dog was behaving similar & it turned out to be twinged spinal disc, thankfully she just needed pain relief & crate rest to heal.

So about 45 mins before his vet appointment he all of a sudden made a miraculous recovery and started bouncing about and playing with his toys so I called the vet again and they said I could reschedule his appointment to a standard one next week as yesterday's was an emergency one and they had an emergency waiting list.

He's totally fine again this morning, so I have no idea what it could have been.

Glad he is better. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.
