Leaving puppy

What did people do with their pups initially when they went out for an hour? We don't feel ok leaving him running about. As we have another dog and even though they are getting on, I don't think they should be alone for a while. And of course don't want pup to chew or hurt himself when we are out. We have a crate. But he's not a fan. Not quite sure what to do!

Crate train him. You can google it. It saved my kitchen. My lab was a nightmare when I first left him for ten minutes to run the kids to school. I left my phone filming him. The next day I shut him in his crate. He curled up and went to sleep. I think he felt safe in there.

I got a second hand puppy pen. It’s big enough to have crate/bed, water and a blanket it.

I left mine in a fairly puppy-proofed room with a bed and water and the older dogs. They were fine. They'd managed fine overnight, and daytime was not different.

We have a little fence (i think intended for whelping) that allows is to fence off one end of the kitchen. Our boy has his crate, water, toys all in there and is happy as Larry. Enough space to wander about and have a sniff, and enough space to put down a pad away from his crate in case he needs to "go". Has worked brilliantly for us.

I think I’m going to leave ours in the bathroom.
