Lurcher harness sizing

In a couple of weeks we're adopting a 2 year old lurcher. I have lots of questions, but one really specific to start with, in the hope that a lurcher owner might be able to advise me.

I'm planning to order a Ruffwear web master harness, since reviews seem good. But I'm not sure whether he'll need small or medium. He weighs about 18.5kg, but I don't have girth measurement. I need to order online because not near shops. And I'd like to have it ready, because we're not in UK and it will take some while to arrive.

So I can just order both small and medium and see which fits best and send the other back. But I wondered if anyone has a lurcher in that sort of weight class and also a Ruffwear and could let me know which size?

Also if there's an alternative harness which you'd recommend over the Ruffwear. Thank you!

Have you looked at the perfect fit harness . perfect fit harness

They come in three parts so they are made to fit (unsurprisingly ) perfectly for each individual dog. The phone advice is excellent and they will be able to help you and send you several parts and you can return what you do not need.

The Ruff wear webmaster is not always the best fit for the skinnies as the back piece is very wide and can gape

I'd go for a perfect fit harness every time when it comes to fitting a lurcher. If you ask the rescue, I'm sure they will measure up for you.

The Houdini Harnesses from Indi-Dog are excellent and come in either made to measure or super adjustable off the peg versions.

I’ve got a real escape artist and always go for harnesses with the additional strap for extra security as standard now.

We also use Indi dog Houdini and they are excellent , we’ve had a couple made to measure and they wear and wash beautifully .

Thank you so much, oh wise ones!

I will try again to get the rescue to measure. The first time I just got an answer about waiting until he arrived so he could try it on. If necessary will just wait and order when he's here.

Very excited about having own dog at last!

So they won't measure him, too busy. All the info I have is that he's 78cm tall and weighs 18.5kg. I figure I should order a vari-fit harness (indi-dog.co.uk/Vari-Fit-harness-medium-adjustable-padded-front-ring-training-dog). The question is just whether medium is right. Does anyone else happen to have a lurcher around the same proportions and know which size harness you have?

I had a Lurcher very similar size & weight, don't bother with anything but Perfect Fit! I tried almost a dozen, including Ruffwear.

Go for S-S-L 20mm. It comes in 3 sections so you can always change a section.

In case it helps anyone who comes across this thread in similar circs, went for an Indi-Dog Vari-Fit Harness in large and it's perfect. Thanks for your advice everyone, much appreciated. And the dog is wonderful.
