The vet has suugested that we look at his diet as he does get more than his fair share of shin and ear issues.
We know this is only the cause in about 15% of cases but we can at least rule it out fairly easily.

He is currently raw fed and has a selection of pork, beef, lamb, turkey and duck, all with vegetables.

I can either try him solely on venison and veg (or plain venison) or put him on something like Purina DRM Dermatosis. Or I could try him on the Fish for Foods that I have a big bag of in the garage.

Does anyone have any experience of any of these, vis a vis skin/ear conditions, by any chance?

TIA

Have you had him allergy tested? My MIL had her Shepherd allergy tested and he was allergic to absolutely everything except Venison and Turkey...which has been a nightmare for her! But was worth doing so she knew what to avoid, and his ear problems have all cleared up. Previously he was having to have ear drops and his ears cleaned twice a day.

My yeasty basset was best on salmon/other fish. Couldn't have beef or chicken.

Mimsy, thanks for posting. Did you feed Fish for dogs by any chance?

I did for a while. Very expensive. We had better results with Skippers.

Are the food compositions different do you know? I guess they must be for it to have made a difference to you dog.

The vegetables may be the issue. Ask on the rawfeeding rebels page on Facebook, they're very good with advice.

Thank you
I’d always assumed the vegetables were the safe bets and it would be the meat or grain causing the issues.
I’m old! I should know never to assumeSmile
