Can anyone recommend a comfy and secure harness for 4.5 month old puppy please? He's a medium sized lurcher-ey shape, 53cm round the chest and 30cm around the neck.

My whippet has a Julius k9 which he seems comfortable in, can’t escape from, and it holds him well when he’s trying to get a dog/duck/squirrel etc (he’s still a pup training is ongoing)!!
They have them in pets at home so can try on for size. Think it was about £30.

Indi-Dog Vari-Fit. Either the standard one or, if you want the extra security, the Houdini. They’re designed to be as adjustable as possible so should last a growing pup a reasonable amount of time.

The Perfect Fit harness is also good, you can buy individual pieces as your pup grows so it continues to fit. Not necessarily 100% escape-proof though, it depends how adept an escapologist your dog is.

We have a perfect fit.

It’s in sections so you can always get a new section as they grow. Although I had to buy a whole new one after he had a 6 month growth spurt!

Think it was about £40

I went to a pet shop where the lady fits them and she doesn’t sell a number of harnesses as she feels they don’t work comfortably on a dogs body. So the fact that she sells these gave me confidence with it.

Yay, responses!

I looked at the Perfect Fit the other day Myranium and got horribly confused!

Quite flexible with budget Avacodos.

Will have a peruse at some of the suggestions. Trying on at PAH a good idea. The young man's quite wriggly!

The Perfect Fit harness is fantastic. OP if you measure your dog you can email them and they will recommend the right combination, they’ll send you a link and you can just click purchase

Perfect Fit will advise via email if you are confused. My girl was between sizes according to the guide so I asked and they got it spot on first time.

Whichever type you get it needs to sit high on the shoulder - styles like the Zero DC or Julius K9 cut across the shoulder, inhibiting free movement.

We use an Indi dog Houdini on our patterdale x , he escaped from a few harnesses in the past but he cannot get out of an Indi dog . They are reasonably priced , made to measure and wash and wear very well .

Just ordered an Indi Dog Houdini. I needed to order him one quickly because he's wriggled out of the harness he was rehomed with a few times.

Will attempt complicated Perfect Fit measurements when I haven't had Wine

We've just got a perfect fit harness. Have had a few different types but the perfect fit one is just that - a perfect fit.

Current thinking is to go for the 'Y' shaped front harnesses that go between the dog's legs, rather than the type that just go either side of the dogs legs such as the Julius K9 because that type can impede the dogs movements and put strain on their front joints, especially if they are prone to pulling.

Perfect Fit are brilliant, I wouldn’t use anything else.

I would avoid JuliusK9 and similar styles, restricts a full range of movement in the shoulders.

Perfect Fit Harnesses are great and they wash well too, and their customer services are above and beyond, when I ordered on line and wasn't happy with the fit, they sent me out two other pieces to try and then I tried them all to get the correct fit and then sent the unwanted pieces back all at no extra charge, they couldn't have been more helpful.
