We've made the decision this morning it's time to let our lovely boy go. I posted about him at Christmas as we thought we'd lose him then and he rallied but it's time now. We got an extra 6 months with him which I am grateful for. He's old and he's had enough but it doesn't make it any easier. Absolutely heartbroken

I'm so sorry. Those six months must be very precious to you; and he has had six more months of your love. If he is struggling, the best gift you can give him is a peaceful end Flowers

I am so very sorry Sad It really is the hardest thing but absolutely the best thing for your lovely boy. When it is truly time, you just know don’t you. .

We lost our adored little girl in February and I still miss her every day. Something that helped me, especially early on, was bringing her ashes home in a little pot which now sits by the TV so she is still ‘here’ with us in a sense. I thought it might seem odd or a bit macabre but was surprised how comforting I found it, and still do. Just something practical to think about if you haven’t already.

Sending you hugs and strength for when the time comes Flowers

I am so sorry. I posted on here 3 weeks ago as I suddenly lost my beautiful girl, she was 10 and had undiagnosed cancer, no symptoms. I took her to the vets as she became unwell and she died there. Three weeks on and I am still in shock, I cry many times a day and am really struggling to come to terms with the loss. I can not offer any advice except to say you will be with your boy when he goes, as I was with my girl and devastating as it is, to leave this world whilst being comforted by the person who is your world is the best and kindest way to go. You will hold him and stroke him and tell him you love him and this will be all he needs until you meet again. Thinking about you. Flowers

I'm so sorry. Flowers We lost our beautiful boy Chase in June; he was 10 and had cancer and kidney disease. He started to bring up blood one evening so we had to take him to the emergency vets hospital there and then. DH and I were both with him to the end.

It is hard, but it was swift and peaceful, and not just the right thing to do; it was the only thing to do. It's a comfort knowing that you're doing the kindest thing and not letting your boy suffer. Flowers

We have our boy's ashes now in a beech casket on our mantel piece, and are in the process of arranging a display with photos, card etc. around it.

Again, I'm sorry. Flowers

The hardest thing about having a pet is losing a pet, but you will always have memories. Do you have other pets or only him?

Just him and some fish. He went into vets yesterday for a GA so we had warned DS he might not come home given his age so this morning he was saying we did all this yesterday and he came home!! Dreading telling him Sad

There's no way of sugarcoating it at any age. We had told DD3, 8, that our boy was very ill and that he wasn't going to get any better. On the evening we went to the hospital, we told her that now was the time to say goodbye, as the vet was going to help Chase go to sleep forever, so that he wouldn't be suffering anymore.

It's so hard, I know. Flowers
