Barking at people and dogs when out

It is nerves from him and not aggression. He is a year and rather sensitive.

Fantastic recall and wait etc.

But if out on walks off lead (forest type place) it is random. Some people and dogs he doesn't bark at and others will bark (never gets closer than 4 metres)

Saw a horse yesterday and made him wait and sit and have treats and he was fine then let out bark still

I call away and he comes or I use tennis ball to distract and that works but I've not been able to stop the initial barking.

I use gentle voice and reassurance with him.

Any tips that have worked for you?

Sounds like he's a bit reactive (technical term). I'd highly recommend joining the Facebook group Reactive Dogs UK

Watching with interest. I have just rehomed a six year old show champ who is the softest nicest dog ever. However, she is barking like this. If the dog approaches she then lies down. She is entirely submissive. Breeder thinks possibly just unsettled at move and nervous generally. She's not really toy or food orientated. Even for high value stuff.

She was being bullied hence the rehome.

we've just had help from a dog trainer for our dog who was lead aggressive and is generally quite nervy. What she said and taught us made complete sense and the difference in just a few weeks is amazing! I'd definitely recommend getting a good trainer but make sure you get a good positive one as there are so many dodgy ones around. Go on the dog training advice and support Uk group on Facebook and they can recommend a good trainer
