.what would you do you went to collect her and she's obviously been clipped- and the groomer said " Oh, it's the same thing"?

Personally, I'd tell them that's not what I asked for, not pay & find a different groomer!

How can they not know that stripping is different?!

It is so not the same thing! Find a different groomer!

I only used this one because my usual one was fully booked for the next 3 weeks and I wanted dog smart for a charity dog show on Monday. She came recommended by a doggy friend, and when I talked to her on the phone she seemed to know all about how to do Borders. Big mistake.Sad

I know it's not the same thing and I purposely pick dogs that don't need groomed on purpose because I can't be bothered with it...so I'd be pretty shocked at a groomer knowing less than me. Hmm

I doubt it's a case of knowing less and is more a case of clipping being easier than stripping.

She charged half as a "gesture of goodwill". I wish I had refused to pay now.

Obviously not much help right now but if you get in touch with your regional branch of the breed club they might well be able to recommend someone local to you who can do proper hand stripping.

Clipping a wire haired dog can wreck their coat. That's really bloody annoying!

It's absolutely not the same thing and it's going to take ages to get back to the original look (previous wire fox terrier owner here). Stripping leaves the topcoat hair with naturally tapering ends, rather than the blunt ends left by clippers .
This groomer obviously doesn't know her stuff. Word of mouth is your only recourse, I'm afraid.

I know. She looks OK, but if you know what you're looking for she''s all soft and the wrong colour.

I suppose that's why this woman had an appointment and my usual groomer didn't. Oh well, lesson learned. It'll have grown back by the winter.

I would be really concerned about a groomer who thought it 'was the same thing',. My WCS goes to a groomer who really understands stripping, I wouldn't let anyone who didn't touch him. Clipping will ruin the natural look of the coat. You're not to blame, OP, but other owners need to know that this groomer doesn't know their stuff.
