When to call the vet

My boy is just over 13 months and is a Labrador

Normally he is pretty good if evening settles down about 7 ish or just joins on couch and when I turn lights out goes to bed and other than occasionally changing where flops he sleeps

But all day today it's been like he on a sugar rush .
Had plenty of exercise and eaten drunk as normal though he seems prefer water from the water butt than his bowl but then not abnormal though seems had bit more than normal but not by huge amount

But this evening he is restless Keeps asking go out in the garden but then barks at seems like fresh air is very jumpy

He is just pacing round and can't seem to settle (only time he been like this before is after Drontal that he was up whining falling asleep then jumping up but no drontal this time


No sign of any pain anywhere stomach feels like normal gums are ok
It's like he been on the energy drinks is jittery

Is it worth a call to the vet just in case he is in pain or see how he is come the morning ?

If he is alert, eating/drinking normally, not vomiting, not appearing to be in pain then IMO you don't need to call the vet tonight. I would see how he is in the morning. Set an alarm for middle of the night to check on him if you're worried.

To me he sounds to be in no distress, and I would observe him and wait to see how he is tomorrow morning.
However, if your gut instinct is to call the vet and bring him in to be examined, then do so and do it now at 9pm instead of at 2am!

Hmm maybe Wolfiefan but he is netured do guessing should not affect him

He sleeps in same room as me feeling neither of us will sleep much tonight

Our 3 year old lab is neutered and still very interested in bitches in heat, he spent 30 minutes drooling with his nose glued to a spaniels rear last week. Wasn't happy when we left.

If you are concerned call the vet. There will be an out of hours advice line or alternatively if you are insured your insurance may offer a 24/7 line.

If he is pacing, panting etc I would be concerned and has been for a while I would be concerned.

He was sick not long after posted so think he may been eating cat poo again

He was restless to about 3am then went if to sleep .This morning he full of beans has been out for walk ran round like his normal self .

Came home not wanted his normal meat (is raw fed normally ) but decicded that actually he wanted kibble and is now laid down snoring away .

Will keep eye on but seems normal service is resumed .I on other hand feel like a wreck am so tired as stayed awake checking on him most the night .Coffee will be my friend today

Yep, sounds like he can smell a bitch in heat somewhere nearby. Call the vet if you're worried but should calm down in a few days. Might start to be a regular occurrence though. Don't let him off lead when he's like that, you won't see his arse for dust.

I hoped with him being netured would not have problem with this .Everything crossed he sleeps tonight as I am shattered
