Barking

Our dog is 7. She's a springer x. Over the past month she has started barking at night. She is at the back of the house in the kitchen/diner and our bedroom is over that room, so we hear every little woof. Sometimes she'll do a couple of loud barks and then go on for a few minutes making her pathetic woofs! Some nights she is doing this 3 or 4 times, so our sleep is very disturbed.

We tried moving her to the front of the house, but our neighbour leaves for work at 5:45 so she starts barking. She used to be in a crate (open), but we got rid of it when we had building work and really don't want to go back to having a huge crate in my lovely new kitchen/diner.

Is there anything we can do?

Sounds like she's barking in her sleep. My old boy used to do this, it was quite funny, but then I never heard it at night. Could you try putting her in a crate or high sided box? She might be feeling a little anxious at losing her safe hole.

She does do sleep barking in the evenings, but this is more of a few proper barks followed by pathetic ones. I'm starting to think the crate might be needed. She always covers herself with her blanket, but sometimes it slips off. It's not always off when I come down at 3am though.
