Hand hold please? Tough time with my special Oap

Hi,
My special girl is a 16 year old BC who has been my shadow and constant companion through so much since she was teeny 7 week old puppy.

Recently the mammary lump started to bother her, and she went onto antibiotics and anti inflammatories which haven't really helped. Yesterday we had a discussion at the vets at the 2 options- the best of which was surgery today to remove the lump, though this depended on the outcome of chest X-ray once she was anaesthetised to make sure there were no secondaries. She became quite agitated overnight and went into the out of hours vet hospital for a drip as she was dehydrated. She isn't fit for surgery today and I'm just waiting for the results of the biopsy (will say if it's aggressive) and blood tests to consider next steps. If it's aggressive it will have spread and this is the most likely outcome.

I'm pretending I'm prepared but scared witless of what's coming. Home feels empty and lonely without my little shadow this morning.

I'm really sorry you're going through this Merriboo. It's very difficult to be apart from them when they're so poorly isn't it? Do you know when you're likely to get some news?

Merriboo Thu 30-Jul-15 12:55:28

Thanks Raia they said lunchtime so maybe in the next hour or two.

Hand holding. It is difficult news to wait for and not made any easier by telling yourself you are ready to hear whatever it is they have to say.

Raia Thu 30-Jul-15 13:07:14

thinking of you, it's so difficult I know

Adarajames Thu 30-Jul-15 13:22:59

Thinking of you. I recently lost my old girl and was so hard, and only had her from 12 as an oap foster, so can only imagine how hrs when you've had them so long. brew and flowers for you wait x

Adarajames Thu 30-Jul-15 13:23:13

Hard not hrs

Merriboo Thu 30-Jul-15 13:48:28

It is aggressive. They can do x rays of her chest and abdomen to see if they are clear but she has gone downhill a bit over the last few days so it's an uphill battle to stabilise her if we wanted to try for surgery.

Silver and her Felines are sending their love. ( I have a very dear old lady cat, I'm watching closely as she is very frail..tis heartbreaking..)

She is at peace, running free at rainbow bridge. I am in pieces and don't know how to be without my little shadow, best friend and constant companion

Raia Thu 30-Jul-15 19:04:56

I'm so sorry sad It must have been the right, kind, loving thing to do, but I know it doesn't feel that way.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman Thu 30-Jul-15 19:05:42

I am so sorry. We had a similar shock diagnosis last year with our old Lab, I know how much it hurts. Sending thoughts across the internet flowers
