The doghouse

Anyone around? Vet has not rung back, he has my dog, surgery closed

My dog went in for an exploratory op this morning, they mentioned the possibility he would be kept overnight and I said no to that, obviously if he was seriously ill I'd agree but I expect to be consulted. They rang 5.30pm said he was ok but not likely to come home tonight, I said no I want him home so what time do you close, can he be re-assessed later. But no news and they've switched the answerphone on.

I know the vet sometimes works late, he's rung me around 8pm before, but I am utterly panicking, shall I just go down there or would that be completely mad?

There should be staff around to monitor the animals during the night I'd imagine. No out of hours number on the answering machine??

Vet probably working late! Sure they wouldnt go home without calling you back. Give it a little longer then maybe try the emergency number- depends if they do their own out of hours work as to whether you will get your own vet. If they recommend your dog stays in it will be for good reason. Ex lap a major op - people usually in hosp for days!

Panic over. mostly. He rang just as I was putting my coat on, dog is still under effect of anaesthetic and needs drip/pain relief so I agreed he could stay. I wonder why they ever told me a dog could be brought home same day it sounds unlikely.

Thanks everyone, sort of false alarm.
