Eric is a devil, he helps himself to anything he fancies, he loves anything shiny, if he can't reach something he plans and climbs to get it. I've watched him push the kiddy step into place so as he can climb up and get a pencil off of a cabinet that he can't jump up on. So how can I have a tree and keep him off of it? I did consider putting it in the puppy pen but he can jump over that and he would for the baubles.
The other thing is that he will be delighted at the prospect at opening the presents left out on Christmas Eve. He sleeps in the room where they would normally be left and I'll get up to carnage if they are both left in the same room. It doesn't really seem fair to move him out of the room and anyway he can open doors so I'd need to add bolts to keep him out.
So any suggestions about the tree and advice on whether he'll settle downstairs the following night if I shut him in with me in the bedroom Christmas Eve.

Oh and Eric's an only dog and slightly smaller than a Westie, can't work out whether it's because I'm incompetent or just that Eric is too clever by far 
I think we're too late for teaching them not to chew - they're 10! Only had them since March, so we have to put with with the destruction 
But yes, they're my doggies. Looking sweet and innocent sleeping on the rug, no doubt plotting their next mayhem they're gonna cause when we turn our backs.

Looks like my tree might have to be taken down 
BoyDog wasn't too bad when it was naked, now he won't walk past it without crying. He's a big Mardy wuss, but we have no idea where this has come from or on his history and it's stressing the poor old bugger out. He's turned back into VelcroDog and won't leave my side. He's currently trying to sit on my knee all 34kg of him for cuddles.
Or maybe he's just a grinch dog
Oh no we've still not braved putting ours up yet. We have, though, bought Eric a Santa outfit that he happily wears in contrast to his weather protection coats that he barely tolerates.
Last year we had a tiny real one and put it on a high unit out of reach.
We decided this year it would be nice to have a bigger one and got a big artificial one. I put it up the other day to see how the dogs reacted to it and I think it may well either be coming down or have to remain bare.
DDog2 and DWhippets1&2 are fine. Unfortunately DWhippet3 has worked out how to get the individual branches off and keep strolling nonchalantly past with them in his mouth. I can hear the little fucker rustling about in the damn tree as I'm typing 
Well I don't believe it, Eric is resolutely ignoring the tree 
He had a sniff when it first went up but has shown no interest since. I feel strangely proud of him
