Anyone hear the Jeremy Vine phone in yesterday?

Did you hear the phone call from the woman with the lurcher (deer/greyhound X) who'd taken him in to the children's hospice to visit her friend's dying daughter? All the nurses/doctors turned a blind eye to this huge animal coming in to the hospice to visit her in her room. They had allowed it partly I think because she was fighting her situation, not letting go. He lay next to her on the bed and they fell asleep together for an hour or so, her face buried in his huge shaggy neck. That night she died. She was 8.

I was crying like a baby.

I heard it. The caller lives in the same town as me. It was a nice item.

Yes, it was so moving. Never cried at the radio before.

I think part of why it was so moving was because she sounded such a strong, forceful person and she was choking up as she talked about it.

I was beside myself. I swooped bemused noodle covered toddler daughter out of her high chair for a big hug.

I know! Yesterday was my day off and I'd been Xmas shopping so I gave the hound a massive cuddle when I got home.

When the DCs got home from school they were also a bit bemused about my excessive hugginess!

She was a proper, no-nonsense, animal-adoring, country gal and with her voice cracking, I was done. Made me well up and sob into my sandwich.

I know our local hospice arranged something similar for a lady who had horses. When my mum was in a stroke rehab unit they allowed us to bring her dog into see her regularly, it did her and all the other patients a world of good.
