Young dog in season

She's only 8 months.

What do I do? Not walk her during this time in case other dogs get to her?

Yes, you'll have to keep her in. Male dogs will be able to smell her from a mile radius and will seek her out, and she will be very keen to meet them! You'll need to be very vigilant as she will try to get out.
Our dog turned into the worst flirt ever in season. Elder male dog is neutered but that didn't stop her waggling her bum suggestively in his face every 5 minutes! He was somewhat bemused

It was a relief once she was spayed and we didn't have the worry.

She'll smell absolutely fascinating to male dogs, even neutered ones, for about three weeks, although she'll only be interested in them for a few days. However, they'll be a total pest if they do pick her scent up and are off lead. I usually drive out into deep countryside to give them a chance to stretch their legs.

She may be very clingy and loving with you at this time.

Her vulva will swell up and go very pink, and she will lose a little blood from it, so be prepared to wash stuff. I've seen owners create sanitary pants, but they usually get chewed off pretty quickly!

Speak to your vet about neutering, I'm a fan of the sooner the better after the first season, but advice changes, and there may be issues to do with your dog's breed too.

She's a beautiful fox labrador.

Yes, I'd like to get her spayed but I've been advised only after her second season.

Dh would like her to have puppies when she's 2 mostly because he'd like to see her beauty in her children. But of course all the work will be down to me. Plus I'd get upset about saying good bye to her pups.

Keep her on a lead and carry a big stick for the next 3 weeks!

If your DH is happy to deal with several weeks of sleepless nights, huge vet bills, huge Kennel Club registration bills, huge insurance and feed bills, and the utter PITA of finding good homes who aren't puppy farmers for up to a dozen puppies, then he's welcome to put her through it...
