bad kennel, what should I do?

I have just returned from holiday and collected my dog from the kennel where we had left him. He had stayed here before last year and seemed fine so we weren't concerned. This time we have picked him up and he seems very miserable and unhappy. When we collected him his feet were covered in urine and his coat was stained yellow with it. He smelt very strongly of urine also. It took at least 3 baths to get the smell out. His bed is also dirty and smelly. He seems to have a very bad cold and can't bark properly. The kennel took him to the vet as they said he had a cough whilst there and they gave him antibiotics (which we are continuing at home) although they couldn't find anything wrong with him and told the kennel to keep him in isolation. We were presented with the vets bill and the kennel bill so have paid nearly 200 pounds for our lovely healthy dog to now be in this condition. What should I do?

Two different issues.
Firstly dirty stinking of urine this shouldn't happen your local council trading standards licence kennels. Report this to them and they will do a surprise visit to inspect.
Illness whilst in kennels, so kennels provide insurance to cover this and usually show this as a separate charge on the bill. Others do not and owners are expected to pay on return this should have been on the terms and conditions that you signed when your of was taken in to kennels.

What did the Kennels say about your dog's general condition? Have you formally complained to them? Other than that maybe local council?

no we didnt say anything at the time. i just wanted to get him home. i was thinking RSPCA but i should report to the council instead?

The council are the licensing authority at worst they can remove the kennels licence to board so they are the ones who can effect change.

this happened to us we were on holiday and dd1 was going away for the weekend we couldnt get out usual kennels when she collected him she said he was gritty and a bit smelly and didnt seem himself we didnt see him so we didnt do anything just wont usethem again, but I think you should report the kennels ,

Your poor dog. He was in a hellhole. He would probably start shaking if you got near the place again.

Once I boarded our dachshund who does like to bark. When I picked her up, she shook all the way home and would only go oomph instead of bark.

It was at the vet's where I boarded her. His Dad was often there and seemed bad tempered. I told the vet about it and asked if something had been done to Molly. He said no, nothing would have been done.

But I think she had a shock collar put on her.
