The doghouse

Can anyone advise on how to train a dog to ASK to go out for a wee etc?

My two-year old Cav is pretty reliably toilet-trained, but if we don't actively encourage her to go outside and stand with her, she doesn't do anything that makes it obvious she wants to.

Last night I took her out for five minutes not long before I went to bed, she bimbled about for five minutes and (I assumed) peed. Half an hour later, shattered, I got off the couch to go to bed. She made her way towards the back door, as I usually put her out JUST before I go up. I assumed she didn't need a wee as she'd not long gone out, so ignored her and she just followed me up.

Then she surreptitiously peed on my bed Angry

I'm decorating ATM and have a new carpet and bed delivered today, which I'm keen to keep clean, obviously.

Was it my fault for not taking her out AGAIN just before bed? Do you think she realised I was not quite ready to go up the first time so didn't think that was her "pee window", IYSWIM?

Is there any way to train her to ASK rather than wait for me to anticipate and do her thinking for her?

I'd be grateful for any advice Thanks

I would have taken her out again before going to bed "just in case" but peeing on your bed sounds more like marking behaviour to me.

Sorry can't help on the asking thing, I have a girl who was a dream to housetrain and wouldn't dream of messing in the house, and a boy who at 10 months (but rescue I've only had 4 weeks) is a bit "leaky" Hmm

The new bed arrived TODAY though, so luckily she didn't mark that! She has peed on the bed maybe four or five times ever, so it's not marking, I don't think. I always thought that the wouldn't wee where they sleep, but it obviously didn't bother her.
