How often do you bath your dog?

I have a puppy that has had to have a couple of baths as she just gets so smelly. I have two young kids so want to keep her clean

Staffie, so not very often as he is short haired and glossy coated. Reall only if he gets a bit smelly after trip to kennels or rolling in something nasty.

We aim for weekly, but this ends up 2 weekly in reality. Cmotdog spends a lot of time running free at the stables and in woodland at the weekend, so gets v grubby

Mines a German shepherd and she just smells after a week of not having a bath, I'm just scared it will damage her? Iv done research and some say its fine some say its not fine! So not helpful. To be fair it's not a bath, I put her in bath tub and have one of them shower things that showers her as then dirt gets washed off

I have 2 collies that live out, so washing the oil out of their coat would be very cruel. They would be cold and would get very wet. They have beautiful shiny coats, and don't smell. Really, they don't. After lying in the sun they smell of biscuits which is actually quite pleasant. Obviously they get a wet dog smell which isn't so nice, but when dry, nada. Another benefit of leaving the oil in is they don't get soaked through in the rain as the water mainly shakes off.

The one thing I have noticed is if they have to live inside e.g when unwell, they get greasy and stink. Weird.

We have boxers and they get bathed one a month, I love it when their coats are soft and super shiny.

We previously had a german shepherd who loved a bath! We bathed her outside in the summer with a bucket and hose after she had been swimming or rolling in mud and in the actual bath in winter. She especially loved being combed and that took hours when she was moulting. We could ask her to 'shake' and she would do the nose to tail shake to get the excess water off.

Only when they roll in something stinky (best to date was half a dead seal on Stevenston beach - that was beyond disgusting). Most of the time they don't need baths, because they go swimming in the river every time they go out, and it is nice, clean running water - it keeps their coats beautifully soft and sweet-smelling.

Our springer gets his under-carriage hosed after muddy walks and a proper all-over, warm water bath with nice smelling, gentle soap about every 6 weeks. He's just had it today along with a bum hair trim and he's looking pristine. This will last approx 1hr until he gets into the garden and drags himself through the mud!

Had our puppy 7 weeks and he's had 4 baths already! The clue's in my name ! Day we brought him home he smelt really "doggy", second time he had an upset tummy and had pooed in his crate and laid in it, third time rolled in mud and fourth time eaten a fish skin which stuck to his fur! So all the baths were justified! I know the general opinion is not to bath dogs too much, but I use a tiny amount of puppy shampoo well diluted and shower him, he doesn't mind it and smells lovely afterwards! I'd say bath as and when necessary, rather than to a set regime. So sometimes dog may have a bath one week and again the next, other times may go months without one. Think we just had a spate of dirtiness! He hasn't had one for about 2 weeks now and doesn't need one at all.

Three times a year at the groomers - chaos to try and bath him at home (Cairn terrier). He doesn't seem to need more than that which is good as when we have had to do it at home it is proper chaos.

several times a week as he is small, has a lot of white and loves rolling in fox pooh.
the only advantage of having had a puppy over the foul muddy weather is that from an early age he has been chucked in the sink as up to his armpits in mud, and hence is very very good about being bathed!

Never. I had no idea bathing was so prevalent. Even when the new terrier gets muddy, a dog towel and half an hour in the boot room mean he is clean enough to come into the rest of the house. The other terrier was bathed occasionally due to a skin allergy, but I've got that sorted now so he doesn't need it either.

I didn't think bathing was good for them tbh.

shampoo in my bathroom ( used on former dog, not the staffy) I sometimes wonder if visitors notice and wonder which of us uses it.

Whoops - yesterday he had two proper baths with shampoo and hot water as he had rolled in dead bird and actually had bits of rotting flesh in his fur .
