Visiting dogs in the house?

Is there a good way to introduce a visiting dog to your dog in the house? MIL would occasionally like to bring over her little pooch but Alandog isn't great with dogs generally ( fear aggression) I'm worried she'll try to snap or bite.
Just add, MIL's dog is a tiny chihuhua so Alandog surely won't feel threatened will she?

Are you able to meet up with your MIL and her dog somewhere outside the house and then take the dogs for a walk together to get used to each other before you all head back to your house? That way you do the introductions in a neutral place, any excitement at the meeting occurs out of the house and you can observe their behaviour together. I always did it this way when I had dogs and we had dog visitors who my dogs didn't know well.

That's the ideal way, sulky, though sometimes it's not possible. I thought I was quite laid back about other people's dogs. The truth is that I'm not. Perhaps it's just that we've got other animals in the garden and our dogs are relatively safe with the status quo. Other dogs are less predictable.

Re dog sizes; dogs don't worry about their size. To them they're just dogs. If your dog has somewhere safe to go without interference, that may help
