Crate question...

We are picking our puppy up on Saturday
We have a small cage for him as I have always crate trained my puppies. DS has been primed that he is not to touch pup when he is "in residence" We have also set the bigger cage up for our existing dog- he is happy to use a crate and will sleep next to the puppy, hopefully cutting down on nighttime griping Hmm :o
Not too sure if we should ensure the dogs only use their own cages (at least initially) I thought that GingerDog may appreciate somewhere to hole up when the pup gets too much, and also somewhere to stash his beloved soft toys.
Is this a good idea, overly confusing or plain pointless it's a long time since I had a puppy!!

We've got our 2 yr old lab in his basket which is next to new pups crate. Both are flaked out next to each other as i type in their own bedsGrin

Its been easy tbh as they both seem to know where they belong which is a bit of a surprise considering our lab is a bit dippy but then again there is no way he'd fit in a shih tzu pup sized crate so maybe thats why its worked wellConfused
