Puppy not doing his business on walks

Have had the puppy for a month now. Toilet training going very well - all done on the newspaper and outside, learning the word sit and knows his name. So was very excited to be able to take him out for proper walks only when we are out no wee or poo. He seems to save it all up for when we get home and he does it on the newspaper or goes outside and you can actually see the relief on his face!

I reward him when he does go outside - what am I missing? DP actually cocked his leg up against the hedge yesterday to show the dog what to do!

My JRT was the same way.

She didn't start doing it on walks until she was 6 months old! I didn't make a big deal out of it but carried treats in case she did pee outside, eventually she just did it herself. It was very annoying but she grew out of it and now loves peeing on everything she can on walks :)

I think it is quite common when they first start walking.

Mine always used to wee in the hallway after a walk. I think it is fairly conmon.

Oh and he has only just started cocking his leg at nearly 7 months. Talking to other dog owners that isn't unusual either.

Mine has started cocking his leg at 4 months, rather a shock I must admit!!

Keep treating and praising and I am sure it will be fine. Wondering if the newspaper confuses at all? If he's used to this and then unable to recreate that outside? Just a random thought, I am certainly no expert!!

Oh, he's not figured quite the balance yet, which is rather amusing to watch!!!

Very common.
They are too interested in all the exciting things/smells etc. when pups and their brains cut off the messages to and from their bowels and bladder. It will pass.
Some dog owners have trained their dogs to poo on command but don't know from what age.

jaydog didnt cock his leg till he was 9 months and he doesnt do pee or poos on walks either take your dog out before his walk then when you come back, mine will occasionally have a wee when he is out but never a poo I think that is quite good tbh least you dont need to walk about with a poo bag when you are walking,

Yes my younger one still rarely does anything on walks. Then it' has to be in a puddle. Tbh with her it's no surprise!! She's too busy ! It does mean opening back door ASAP when we get home!!

My new 2 year-old is very fussy where she does a poo and holds it until it's the right place. First she'll get into position there, but changes her mind several times before she finds the right quiet unoverlooked place. And she usually faces a bush or a tree as if she thinks if she can't see anything then nobody else can see her. She wouldn't do one if other dogs or people were around unless she could't stop it having dithered so long beforehand < funny cute little thing>.
