Hello ladies (and pooches)

I'm on the lookout for a new pooch, from what I can see from online SSPA and local searches it's mostly large breeds and staffies which aren't compatible with our family.

Can anyone recommend a Scottish rehoming centre for me to look into>?

im sure there must be some but I live in Angus and came up with the same as you when we were looking for a dog. In the end we bought a puppy shih tzu. Sorry, this reply was as much use as a chocolate teapot!

Second chance kennels in Thornton. Most breeds have rescue also. Dogs trust in west Calder. Dog Aid society in Edinburgh.

There's a big Dog's Trust centre near Edinburgh. Second Chance in Fife. In Aberdeen DAWGS is excellent. And most of the breed rescues have Scottish branches.

I think if you find a rescue which is thorough and if you have trust in them, it's better to wait for the right dog than to change your plans. Also, many of the rescues have good contacts and may be able to help you in your quest.

There's a dog and cat home near Dumbarton, in the little village of Milton, I think they might be the kind of place you need.

Dogs trust in Hamilton - they have lots of dogs not on the website. My parents got their dog there and she is beautiful. They followed up how she was getting on etc

Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow all have council run pounds - I'm assuming other places do too, but I know they do.

Dog's trust have centres in West calder (west lothian) and Glasgow.

There's Second chance in Fife, (I know that's been mentioned already) any dog'il do in Edinburgh, Argyll Animal Aid in Barcaldine.

There's breed rescues as well - though I don't know about little dogs as I prefer big dogs, but they should be easy enough to find.

Many tears has a one year old westie being fostered in Edinburgh.

Dog pages has a list of Scottish rescue centres here

and you'll probably find more on google.

Google 'greyhound rescues' and you'll find loads - you know you want a pointy, don't you (need little walking, calm natures, little shedding) Wink.

Big Dog's Trust between Uddingston and Mount Vernon, Glasgow.
Bothwell Bridge Rescue Centre had loads of stunning husky crosses (if you are looking for dog that needs lots of walking...)

PS I yearn for a pointy, so am living precariously through this fred. Ignore the above. What kind of dog are you looking for?

Pacific -I had a tibetan terrier and it was very friendly and outgoing. Not a large dog but not a wee teeny thing either.

It might sound mad, but I'm generally allergic to animal hair, just not 'wooly' hair types. I don't know how likely it would be that one would need rescued mind you... no harm in looking!!!

If you have a look on the kennel club site they have links to breed-specific rescue organisers?

We used the Aberdeenshire Blue Cross to find our lovely hound, Millie.
