I am currently following two very friendly but dopey Japenese Akitas round (that's what I think they are anyway) one has a collar one doesn't.

Both come up for a stroke and a sniff round then thy bound off, mainly I to busy roads. They look well looked after and have obviously escaped from somewhere. I am worried they are going to end up runover, does anyone know who I should call to get them, have followed them a good half a mile now hopefully I can get them to my garden but so far they are just leading me around town.

Your first step would be to leash them up and take them upto the vets to be scanned for a microchip. I adore Akitas, such beautiful dogs, we used to have one.

If there is no mircochip you have a legal obligation to inform the pound. You do not have to give the dogs over to the pound, no matter what you say. If you do the dogs will be destroyed after 7 days. You can advertise on sites like DogLost and in local petshops for their owners. My local paper allows free animal found ads.

No matter what they say, not you. The dog warden probably will tell you you have to give them the dogs. This isn't true.

No way are the dog pound having them. I have got them up the alley at the mo and a very kind man has popped home to get some leads. They will have to come with me while I sort a vet out :)

Another idea would be to have a stroll around any parks near where you found them. Chances are if they have just been lost you will find their frantic owners running about the park. We live directly opposite a park and often find wandering dogs in our street. 9 times out of ten we find the owners looking distraught holding an empty lead in the park.

That's where I am headed when the guy gets back and he will go to the local woods with them. He has kindly offered to take them back to his as he has dog paraphernalia where I have nothing. He has given me his number so can call if I find the owner.

You can tell they are well loved and cared for even though they are a naughty pair. :)
