Beagle has Kennel and is being treated by oxycare tabs 100mg and lexicon 1.5mg.

CKCS had Kennel cough vaccine two weeks before Beagle caught it, but I am certain he has caught it anyway.

Wouldn't normally hesitate in taking to vets but I am taking youth group on trip today and can't let them down, no one els to go as have to be CRB'd.

Can I give CKCS tabs prescribed to Beagle? LOxicom was prescribed because she had swollen glands can I give that aswell adjusting dose for weight? Will take to vets tomorrow but don't want to leave him in distress if I have tabs that would be prescribed anyway, but will vaccine affect that.?

Would welcom any advice please

No don't. But do phone your vet for advice

I would never give a dog medicine that is not prescribed for them. Some breeds have severe reaction to different types of medicine and it is not appropriate (thinking collies in particular)

Also the fact that you may give the medicine then go out for the day and you would not see the reaction in a dog.

Phone you vet

When my dog had kennel cough, the vet advised us to get some childrens benylin cough medicine.

Minimu - good advice didn't think about reactions etc.

Have phoned emergency vet they have checked our records on system, and have said fine to give CKCS same tabs but to take both dogs to vets on Tues as I will need to get more to finish off Beagle's course - which of course I will do first thing Tues morn.

Thanks very much for your responses, much appreciated.

Thanks Kid, this is second time beagle has caught it, she's pretty hardy though so should be fine. I recognised symptoms this time and I know I caught it early, so fingers crossed.

Obviously have only had CKCS 3 months so can't judge his reactions to health issues so well, but he doesn't seem to bad.

my pup had it twice. The first time, the vet prescribed antibiotics and advised us to get the benylin incase he ever got it again.
He did get it again a few months later so I gave him the benylin and he was fine after 2 days.

Dogs can be a nightmare. My previous puppy ate the blade part of a disposable razor. It passed through him the next day but I was so worried!
