GLOW - Netflix Original

Has anyone watched? Will anyone be watching?

GLOW was released on Netflix this morning, I've binged watch the whole series already. I really enjoyed it, but I'm a wrestling fan so I'm wondering whether that's made me biased.

It was strange seeing Kate Nash, but she can sort of act even though she talks exactly how she speak sings in her old songs.

If anyone did like it, I suggest watching the documentary about the real life GLOW.

So what did you think?

Oh, I didn't put the this Kate Nash together with that Kate Nash. Currently binging. It's pretty good, I was also a wrestling fan in the 80s. Not sure what Alison Bree has done to her face though Sad

I think she just wasn't wearing much make up, that and probably a bit of weight loss.

I'm only on the third episode but I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm definitely going to try and watch the documentary because I'm so fascinated by it!

Can you give me some guidance on it?

DH really wants to watch it, but spoiler alwrt I heard there were jokes about mc.

Am I likely to find it upsetting?

DH is massive wrestling fan, and quite partial to Alison Brie so we'll be watching it. We watched the documentary on the weekend.

Albus, there is scenes about miscarriage - I think it's episode 2 - I'll PM you more details, if you want or if no one minds I can post it on the thread? I don't think it's massively a big part of the story but it does give you a feel on certain characters personalities.

Haven't watched it yet but definitely plan on it soon. I'm all over anything that's even remotely wrestling related!

I love it.

Having to sit on my hands to stop cutting myself a ridiculous fringe in though, perhaps I'll just buy some crimpers!

Loved it. Binge watched whole thing whilst ill in order to take my mind off.

Hope they do season 2.

P.s I'm not a wrestling fan in the slightest and I almost skipped trying it out because of that, thinking it wouldn't be my thing.

You don't need to like wrestling at all to watch this - it's so much more than that. You are quickly reeled in to the lives of these ordinary yet extraordinary women. Plus the 80's just seems so funny 😂

Laughed so much at Brie doing her Russian persona.

I've watched the whole thing too. Loved it.

Found Ruth annoying in a very Piper Chapman way but loved the others. Especially Kate Nash who is brilliant.

Thought it set up season 2 very nicely

I've just watched the first episode and thought it was okay. I like wrestling stuff too, but wasn't hugely wowed yet. I'll take the recommendations on here though and continue with it. The Piper Chapman comparison is accurate - found Ruth very unsympathetic!

I think I've got a bit of 80s nostalgia fatigue with all the films and TV shows at the moment. Bring on a full on set in the 90s series!

I watched half of it last night - love it.

I really enjoy the way these Netflix series aren't afraid to have a flawed character in a central role - I think they are all the more interesting for the mixed bag of personalities that is the Ruth and Piper characters.

Binge watched the whole series while hungover last Sunday and loved it!
Wasn't into wrestling at all back in the day but enjoyed it anyway.

I loved it. Has a very similar vibe to OITNB (same producers/writers?)

Didn't think I'd like it as I don't know anything about wrestling but I even enjoyed all that too. Loved the 80's settings and styles, they managed to get it spot on.

I still find Kate Nash hugely irritating even though she wasn't singing.

Just watched the last episode. It was so exciting. I've got into wrestling through DH (much better than his pokemon phase) so it was interesting to see it as a show and as a wrestling set up. Welfare Queen is such a good albeit very racist gimmick. Ruth's costume as Zoya for the last match was amazing. Harry from Mad Men is a dick.

I was at a loose end & started watching off the back of positive buzz on here. I’m loving it, particularly the sisterhood and some of the honest woman stuff: chin hairs, bleaching your moustache, periods in synch etc. The really shit pregnancy test that was like a GCSE Chemistry practical and took forever to work was an eye-opener.

According to Netflix it is made by the team behind OOrane. I don't think it has the same level of characterisation as Orange. To be honest, I don't think I can rember much about most of the wrestlers aside from the "main" ones. But that aside, a good series I thought.

There's a fab documentary on Netflix about the real life glow members iirc.
Does anyone know when series 2 arrives?
