Funeral reading

Putting this in Chat for traffic.

I'm doing a reading at a funeral next Wednesday and not sure what the etiquette is.

It is a humanist reading by Rabindranath Tagore. Fine with the reading but what do I do beforehand? Do I introduce the saying " I am reading ......" And then start or just start? Do I walk off when I've finished? Do I smile?

I'm reading at a lectern but won't see it until on the day.

Never done this before - can you tell?

It is a funeral for my grandpa btw, was 93, great life, died in my nan's arms in bed so a celebration of life really.

Any advice gratefully received.

I'd just head up there and start reading. Whoever is officiating will introduce you.

Sorry about your grandfather. I would say do what you feel comfortable with. I have seen people do readings with intros and without. Up to you if you feel like smiling, just see how you feel on tne day. Most people just walk away from the lecturn afterwards.

Just go up and read it. Of course you can smile, bet it's a great reading, if it makes you sniffly that's ok too.

Hope you all give your grandpa a great send off. My dad died aged 92 at the end of a life well lived . It was a " reet good function " . He would have loved it.
