anyone read the book before watching the film/tv series?

I love reading and then watching the tv series/film afterwards. I've read half way through game of thrones first book and so i couldn't wait to watch half way through the series either. Now I'm going to finish it before watching the rest of series 1. I did the same with the hunger games, Room and Bridget Jones. Anyone else do this?
