Me, I'm finding it quite uncomfortable to watch. Keep being told to shush because I'm ranting at it!

Who's the old woman being interviewed?

Amazing writing and screening. Best thing I've seen on TV for ages.

I'm old enough to remember 1974 and the Lucan disappearance. The aristocracy were truly the people the 60s forgot.

I think the old woman is Veronica's sister. Might have that wrong.

Thanks, thought she was too old to be the granny or housekeeper but having a few wines so hard to follow lol

I thought the old woman was the woman who young Veronica threw a drink over?

No the old woman was the lady that Veronica had confided in about him being violent I think.

Yes she is the one Veronica confided in ..... Suzie Maxwell-Scott played by Jane Laportaire. One thing puzzled me, Veronica and her daughter were watching TV, but the rest of the house was in darkness presumably due to a powercut. And surely Sandra would have had a torch or candle when she came down to the kitchen. I remember this happening, and I am enjoying this production.

I find it very sad that the young lady who died, the nanny, often gets forgotten about in the story. At the end of the day a young woman in her prime was brutally murdered. Am hoping this drama will re address that fact and the next episode will focus on her as well as the Lucans.

That moment Veronica woke up outside that hospital and realised Lucky was trying to get her committed I had goose bumps. Like something out of a Victorian drama. Awful story, that poor nanny.

I hoped to find a thread on thisSmile I thought it was extremely good. Really looking forward to the conclusion. I too remember it. A real un-resovled story that has occasionally popped back into the news over the years.

Rory Kinnear is brilliant, although I had to hustle dc off to bed. They all know him from Count Arthur Strong and wanted to watch it. Def not one for them.

Rory Kinnear is fast becoming one of my favourite actors.

eddie - There wasn't a power cut, Lucan had taken the bulb out of the kitchen light.

I was surprised to see they actually showed him committing the crime seeing as its never been proven. I read something yesterday that said that Veronica has no contact with her kids at all. They are estranged it said which is sad.

I was also surprised the murder was depicted but then again who could be bothered to sue? I get the feeling the Lucan family want to forget all about the murder. It was graphically depicted, which I was also surprised about, in a very matter-of-fact, stark way, which made it all the more chilling.

I wonder what will happen in the next part - I hope they don't focus on Aspinall and the rest of the gambling set to the point that the Lucan and Sandra Rivett families are neglected, story-wise.

Small gripe but great actress as Catherine McCormack is, her lack of resemblence to Lady Lucan was a little distracting for me.

I'd recommend anyone watching it on catch up.

Was dipping in and out, so didn't get the Jane Lapotaire thing either. I was somehow expecting Lady Lucan to come across as being very vulnerable. Didn't she lose custody of her kids due to mental health problems?

Riveting stuff, though (no pun intended..)

Report
wintera · 12/12/2013 17:57

The mental health issues were covered in it though. She got custody back when she admitted herself to a clinic for observation and the psychiatrist said she was sane.

Oh of course, was it the Maxwell-Scotts that Lucan visited after the murder?

I loved it all apart from the very obvious fake gorilla. Perhaps that's how Lucan really disappeared - he just got into the gorilla suit and lived in his mate's zoo for many years Grin

I watched this today. Also surprised they showed him killing the nanny as the whole point of the 'mystery' is that it was never proven and IF he didn't do it then he was sure he'd get framed and Aspinal helped him disappear.

Everything I have read pointed to the fact he was likeable which added to the uncertainty surrounding the murder, he was vile in this drama.

It was very good, and very sad as well. What an awful situation his wife and children were put in.

And although I found Christopher Ecclescake quite hard to watch due to his awful posh accent, it certainly made it seem as though Aspinall egged him on to commit the crime doesn't it?

That annoyed me as well tbh as everything I've read points to Aspinal knowing the truth but not encouraging him to commit murder. It's a very one sided portrayal of what happened, that should have been made clear at the start imo.

I'm in the middle of watching it. It's very good. I know his ex wife and the daughter think it is not accurate but the son or one of them supported it and it does not harm. No one is saying it is 100% what happened. We still don't know if he is or was in Kenya.

The son or one of them? And does no harm? Sorry, can you explain a bit more please, I'm confused?
