AIBU to not get the Inbetweeners?

No doubt there will be a deluge of fans defending it but I don't know if I'm just missing something? Now, I love a cheap knob gag as much as the next person and rude jokes/fart noises/ toilet humour can be hilarious but have given the Inbetweeners a couple of watches and didn't laugh once. Is it all wanking and knobs or is there more to it?

This is a serious question and am not just being prissy! I always tend to miss out on first runs of good telly (The Office, League of Gentlemen, Little Britain, The Wire, Spaced all stuff I caught up on after it had originally been shown). Everyone seems to be going on about how great The Inbetweeners is and maybe I've missed the point? Should I give it another go? Or should I just face facts that it doesn't get much better and I should go back to my Spaced box set?

I love The Inbetweeners and The League of Gentlemen - YANBU each to their own.

I used to find it hilarious, absolutely loved it, despite being about twice the age of the main characters Blush Then mid-way through the last series I stopped watching it as thought the violent mysogynistic sexual chat was just getting way out of hand. I remember an episode in which Jay was referring to bashing some woman's back door down and shagging her till she couldn't walk straight just really really uncomfortable to watch/listen to. I know it's all teenage bravado etc but that just felt wrong... can't remember the exact scene but it was really nasty and just not funny. I felt they had stepped over the mark and I refused to watch it again. Hate the idea of young boys watching it and thinking it's ok to speak about women in that way.

I'm not being prissy either and DH and I did find the first series laugh-out-loud funny but this episode put us both off.

It is mainly wanking and knobs.

I find it funny though, takes me back to my youth and reminds me what lads are like.

It's not clever comedy, it's pure toilet humour but very amusing IMO.

Some episodes are a lot funnier than others though, so I suppose it also depends which ones you've seen. I saw them in order so you get to "know" the characters and their traits which I think helps.

I thought the first series was the best TBH but the other episodes were very funny.
I love the way Will can see straight through Jay bullsh*t. And Neil is so freakily innocent.

BTW I love League of Gents and Psychoville but cannot get into Little Britain, the Office or Shameless.
Not that I'm against toilet humour, it's just horses for courses Wink
