Although to be fair, they ARE still filming, so it could well be that the schedulers are shouting at the production team to hurry the fuck up and not leave them with a big gap in the autumn/winter schedule. Either way, it's bad news if you're completely obsessed a bit of a fan, and faced with the prospect of only the series 1 DVD which you've already watched a zillion times to tide you over til next year ...

oh hadn't realised they were still filming - explains a lot. to be fair I have been availing myself of Moffat and Cumberlovely's other efforts this year so really shouldn't be too greedy. also is martin freeman having to pop back and forth from filming The Hobbit in NZ?

i love my series 1 dvd ...but there is that ruddy great big cliffhanger to resolve, of course, in addition to the anticipation of the new episodes. waiting till autumn/winter 2011 was bad enough but 2012!

A whole year we've been waiting for that cliffhanger to be resolved already - and now we still have to wait till NEXT yearAngry and they're only making three more episodes. WTF?

Teej, I don't think Freeman is jetting back and forth. I think the late filming schedule was a combination of him having to wait until they could release him from The Hobbit, and Benedict finishing his run in Frankenstein (which was extended beyond the initial intended run) So I'd guess they've been doing read-throughs and filming continuously since they both became free in May or whenever.

I THINK it'll be fairly early in 2012; there's a picture, taken on set by Mark Gatiss, of the skull on the mantelpiece in a Christmas hat. So if there's a Christmas episode surely they'll put it on as soon after Christmas as possible? Or perhaps they will even manage to get it on before Christmas? ...

Puppy, I know, the three 90-minute episodes format is a bit odd isn't it? I think they initially thought about doing six or eight 60-minute episodes (the pilot was 60 minutes), but the Beeb suggested they make them longer. I don't see why they couldn't make six 90-minute episodes though. Smile

I know I assumed that when they were reshowing series 1 that 2 would be coming up soon. Gits!

Really enjoyed the latest Sherlocks and wish there were more than 3 episodes!

I was under the impression (although can't remember where I got this information from) that they are showing the first of the next series on boxing day?

catpee, yes, I wonder if the Beeb were still under the vague impression that series 2 would be ready to air in the autumn, so decided to show the repeats as a teaser. It's just turned out to be a very long drawn out teaser!

Chipotle, I hadn't heard that but given the Christmas skull thing it sounds feasible. And after the first series was such a success, moving into a really primetime slot like Boxing Day would certainly take the show up a notch in the public conscience.

I don't know where I heard it. But I've definitely heard it somewhere. I'm wondering if it was on the tube. My stop is White City (with all the BBC types). I once sat next to a lady reading minutes of a meeting about Dr Who and had a sneaky peak... Very dull!

Nuts. I was looking forward to Sherlock returning. I am desperate for Watson to say, "No shit". (am easily pleased).

Ohhhhh Boxing Day, you say? mmmm

chipotle ANYTHING you hear/read with regard to Doctor Who, nomatter how boring, would be avidly consumed by some forums out there on t'interweb Grin - by the time the name of the biscuits served at the meeting was analysed to death someone would have decided that was conclusive proof of the return of the master/daleks/cybermen/time lords/rose tyler/rani/david tennant...

2012? Nooooooo!

I'll just have to keep watching the DVD. Does anyone know which stories they'll be doing? I know they're doing the Irene Adler one (something about Bohemia?) but don't know the others.

Anyone who doesn't want to know which stories they're doing, look away now!

Chemist, yes, it's A Scandal in Belgravia, The Hounds of Baskerville, and The Reichenbach Fall.
