Please could someone let me know about applying for provisional driving licences. i've been on the gov.uk site and it says that if you have a biometric passport that you can do this online. DS's passport is almost 5 years old so therefore his photo will be from when he was 12. So my question is do provisional licences have your photo on and if so is there any way to update it? TIA

My Dd has this pm they still used her passport photo and she only updated it through choice when she passed her test.

Did this last summer for my son but did choose to submit an up to date photo for his application.

We filled out the online form, the photo form turned up in the post a few days later. It did take many, many weeks to actually get his provisional license as there was such a backlog at this point.

He's actually only had 5 lessons due to cancellation after cancellation due to lockdown after lockdown! However we have taken him out and covered many miles and many hours of driving! And we've had some spectacular chats which I shall miss when I am no longer required to sit next to him.

He's booked to take his test next week but can't take it due to lockdown and can't move it as no slots have been opened. It's going to be carnage when all the learners are trying to get their tests rebooked all at the same time.

It's a strange time to be a teenager that's for sure.

We had a similar situation. DD still looks like her passport pic from when she was 12 so we went with it. Applied for provisional last week and it arrived today. Applied for theory test - earliest date I could get was June.

You can choose to have a different photo to the passport one but you’ll need to send the form with photo. We did it a few weeks ago for my DS, did the photo in one of those booths in the supermarket, sent it off and it was back in about 2 weeks
